Sport in Piazza brings sports to the heart of La Spezia, offering a weekend filled with free activities for adults and children alike. The city's main squares will come alive on September 28 and 29 with sports trials, exhibitions, and demonstrations across various disciplines, the perfect opportunity to discover new sports and have fun outdoors.
In Piazza Europa, basketball takes center stage with free trials for children and the chance to meet athletes from Cestistica Spezzina and DLF La Spezia’s A2 series teams. There will also be minivolley tournaments for Under 13, 14, and 16 girls' teams. Throughout the day, there will be free tennis and American football trials with the Red Jackets, as well as boxing and K1 matches.
Piazza Verdi will host the Navy’s sailing simulator, alongside rowing trials offered by the Circolo Velico and the Canottieri Velocior 1883. Gymnastics enthusiasts can participate in free military dynamic gymnastics sessions.
On Via Chiodo, athletics and skating will take the stage, with appearances by top athletes like European Championship bronze medalist Giada Romiti and European champion Rachele Bianchi. Younger participants can join in artistic skating exhibitions, while teens can test their skills on the mountain bike circuit.
Dance lovers will find a packed schedule of exhibitions and open lessons on Corso Cavour, featuring salsa, bachata, hip hop, modern dance, and much more. Among the highlights are performances by Italy’s dance champions from Street City Project and group dance lessons for adults.
Finally, in Piazza del Bastione, martial arts will be the focus, with demonstrations of karate, judo, kickboxing, self-defense, and Kobudo, the traditional weapons of Okinawa. Fans of mixed martial arts (MMA) and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can watch high-level exhibitions and participate in free lessons.
