The park of the ancient city walls

The Parco delle Mura (literally, Park of the City Walls) is a 4km-long path immersed in nature, connecting the city center of La Spezia to the hill area, and offering locals and visitors a peaceful place in touch with nature.

The park begins at Piazzale Giovanni XIII, just beyond the Cristo Re Cathedral.

This park is the ideal place where to enjoy a nice walk in the greenery, fresh air, and to admire the breathtaking landscape and unique views, while reliving the past of the city through pedestrian routes that retrace the old trails up to the top of the hill where you will have full vision over the Gulf of La Spezia.

The Park has no architectural barrier and is equipped with a lighting system. For this reason, it is accessible to everyone and can be enjoyed also after sunset.

Interesting facts

The initial climb still reminds of the old hills where the Capuchin monastery and the Marquises Oldoini’s villa with beautiful gardens stood. When the Capuchin monks left the area, the monastery and the church were replaced by the Military Engineering offices, therefore turning this place into a military outpost.
