Monesteroli

The Scalinata di Monesteroli (Monesteroli Stairway) still retains a certain charm, halfway between past and present, and it is the only access to the ancient village of Monesteroli overlooking the sea.

Ancient cluster of houses, probably founded by a group of monks, Monasteroli can be reached walking down almost two thousand steps, running down the hill and immersed into woods and vineyards. The houses here are only partially inhabited, but historically were places where the fine wine of the Cinque Terre was processed and made.

The most fascinating trait is the so-called Scalinata Grande (Big Stairway), made of sandstone steps winding through vineyards and the cliff.

The last trait of this stairway leads to the small beach of Monesteroli, partially hit by a landslide a few years ago, but still accessible by those who, after a long walk, enjoy a refreshing swim.
