Pitelli

The village of Pitelli stands on the hills of the Gulf of La Spezia and is one the biggest villages in the Municipality of La Spezia.

The ancient oratory of San Bartolomeo, the chiesa di San Bartolomeo Apostolo (Saint Bartholomew the Apostle’s Church), and the marble memorial from the late 19th century in remembrance of the collectivist republican youth club, a symbol of the Anti-Fascist Resistance, are the main landmarks here.

Thanks to its strategic position, Pitelli is the starting point for many hiking trails.

Interesting facts

Founded in the 16th century where the medieval port of San Bartolomeo di Cento Chiavi used to be, the tradition has it that its name comes from the Latin name Petellus, in homage to an ancient Roman family of Consuls who stayed in the area.
