Cadimare

The Gulf of La Spezia is rich in traditional seaside and fishing villages, with their typical pastel-colored houses facing the sea. In this picturesque context, along the old Via Napoleonica – a road explicitly commissioned by Napoleon to connect the different areas of the western side of the gulf – you will find Cadimare, the village that has won the Palio del Golfo for the most times - the traditional regatta where 13 teams corresponding to 13 city districts or seaside villages across the Gulf compete in this stretch of sea in the first Sunday of August.

As for its name, several historical testimonies call it by different names, and for this reason its origin is still unknown, even if the most likely option is that its name comes from “Cà di mare”, meaning houses close to the sea.
