Beaches and beach establishments

I go there, I bathe, and I am inebriated. I have never seen such a clear and sparkling water.

D. H. Lawrence

La Spezia is a crucial logistics and military port. For this reason, there are no beaches in the city, but these are located along the Gulf’s coastline and along the coastline of the Cinque Terre, creating a multifaceted territory rich in beach establishments and free beaches, often hidden to the major tourist flows. La Spezia’s coasts are not sandy and visitors will find a variety of coast types, ranging from rocky areas, pebble beaches, gravel beaches, sand beaches, and rocks. Another peculiarity is that beaches, sometimes, are not so easy to reach: even for the locals, the most picturesque and crowd-free places are situated in areas that may require a little effort to reach.

However, the area is rich in beach establishments to live a comfortable and relaxed experience, especially for families and for those of you who enjoy laying on a beach chair under an umbrella.

The locals consider as beaches of La Spezia not only the beaches of the Cinque Terre, renowned all over the world, but also the beaches of Tramonti, Schiara, Le Rosse, Le Nere, Portovenere, the beautiful island of Palmaria (the biggest island in the whole region), and the seaside villages on the western coast of the Gulf.

The beach Baia Blu, situated close to Lerici, has fine sand and small pebbles, making it one of the most typical places of this area and one of the most beautiful in Italy.

Equipped with beach umbrellas, beach chairs and loungers, it is the ideal place to unwind, enjoying beautiful sunny days close to the sea. On the coast between Lerici and San Terenzo, the beach of Venere Azzurra is a sparkling center where tourists and locals from the near city of La Spezia pour out. Here the beach is free, but if you wish, you may decide to rent beach umbrellas, beach chairs, and paddle boats.

Most of the local sandy beaches are in the easternmost area of the Gulf and, moving south, sandy beaches become more and more common – a feature of the coast of Sarzana and of the upper part of Tuscany

Between Pozzuolo, Fiascherino and Tellaro, tourists will find some of the most wonderful bays in the whole area. Situated between the beaches of Fiascherino and Lerici, after 140 steps on a breathtaking view, set like a treasure along the coastline 60 meters below street level, there is a heavenly cove, where the sound of the waves makes a melody soothing the mind.
