Art House

Projected and constructed by Manilo Costa in 1931, the Casa d’Arte (literally, Art House), built to host exhibitions and to promote publishing, became the cultural center of Futurism during the 30’s.

This building, today partially modified, fully expresses architect Sant’Elia’s futurist theory of diagonal lines dynamism to lower the perspective. After the exhibition called “Mostra Aeropittura Arte Sacra Futuriste” (Futurist Sacred Art Aerial-Painting Exhibition) in 1932, bringing together aerial-painting and sacred art for the first time ever, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti organized the “Premio Nazionale di Pittura Golfo della Spezia” (Gulf of La Spezia Painting National Award) in that same year. The 154 competing art pieces were exhibited at the Casa d’Arte.
