Sprugola Palace

In the area of the city close to the Sprugola canal, this building was erected between 1931-1935, designed and constructed by Raffaele Bibbiani and decorated by sculptor Augusto Magli. The façade on Via Colombo is decorated with the Spurgola Nymph at the two ends. These two figures bear Latin inscriptions: the first one says “Nvmen adsvm indigete hic Sprvgola. Civis esto, perpetve mane valeqve qvi bibis” (I, Sprugola, deity protecting this land, am here. You who are drinking, be a citizen, stay here and forever be well), whereas the other one says “Tibi incoacta svb imposita mole denvo effvsa divoque lympha patrvm exorior” (I, lifeblood of fathers, am free under this superimposed weight, and again I diffusely gush out for you).
