Amedeo Lia museum

Opened nel 1996, the museum offers over 1.000 works, collected by Amedeo Lia which are now kept in the museum to demonstrate this collector’s composite and varied interests and to illustrate artistic production from the pre-classical age up to the end of the 18th century.
In the section dedicated to the precious arts, the small amethyst portrait-head from the early Imperial age and the classical and barbarian jewels and buckles are particularly noteworthy, as are the important collection of Gothic ivory and enamel items.

The section of miniatures is notable, including three complete antiphonaries, and whole pages and fragments by Italian and foreign authors (Maestro della Maddalena, Lippo di Benivieni, Giotto, Bernardo Daddi, Pietro Lorenzetti, Bartolo di Fredi, Barnaba da Modena),
The 17th and 18th centuries are represented by works by Salvator Rosa, Magnasco. Longhi, Canaletto, Guardi, Bellotto, as well as by an important group of still lifes.

In the beautiful old cloister, which offers refreshment in the summer months and is accessible from Via Prione, the local Garden Club has planted flowers and bushes which in some way echo the art works of the museum.

Interesting facts

Lia Museum

Amedeo Lia wasn't a professional collector, but he was so passionate about art that one day he chose to fly to London to attend the auction of paintings that belonged to Adolphe Stoclet. Most of Lia's collection didn't come from auctions but from antique shops, which allowed him to give value to artists considered far from the fashion of the time.
