Museum of Transport

The Association of the National Transport Museum was set up in 1986 with the original purpose of preserving the trams, and they were more and more rapidly being replaced with electronic or combustion vehicles.

Trains, including: locomotives and towed vehicles, formed a new section that was added to that of road transport, which is well represented by trolley-buses and buses.

Road vehicles were temporarily kept in the historic A.T.C. (bus company of the city) depot in Canaletto, at the entrance to the motorway. This late-19th century building has been chosen as the new site of an important library.

The main body of railway vehicles is appropriately displayed near the La Spezia railway station. There is in fact an agreement with the state railways (Ferrovie dello Stato) that guarantees the use of historic trains in certain set periods and for specific events, both in Lunigiana and Garfagnana.
